Swing 1 & 2 Class Descriptions:

Savoy Sampler: It wasn’t just Lindy Hop that had folks stompin’ at the Savoy— in this class we’ll cover a range of fun dance crazes that swept through the Savoy Ballroom in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Peabody, Swing Walk, Jig Walk and more!

The DeFrankie Code: It’s a secret!

Rhythm & Improvisation: Break out of your usual habits and get creative with new tools for improvisation within the lead-follow partnership.

Harlem Heat: Get ready to dance fast and furious for the full hour as we build skill and endurance at the same time!

Bluin’ the Blues: When the tempos get slow, there are so many ways to explore the music. Challenge yourself with a variety of slow dancing styles, including Harlem Ballrooming, Drag Blues, and more.

Fundamentals – The history of Lindy Hop: Improve your fundamentals within Lindy Hop and learn about the heritage of the basic movements.

Speeding up your Lindy Hop: Learn some basic technique for fast dancing and some figures that makes it easier for you to enjoy faster songs.

Classic moves from the ballrooms of Harlem: Classical movements that were seen on the dance floor of the ballrooms of harlem.Great inspiration from dancers like Al minns.

Musicality – make the music do the dancing: Let the music do the movements on you…..(ok, I am swedish but I hope you understand).

Hellza rip off: Original movements and figures from the best Lindy Hop clip in world ever! It will be fast!

Styling classes (also styling of the follow and lead) Work on your personal styling. Also understand the different ways styles of follow/lead. Basically you will look much better after this class!!

Rhythms into Lindy Hop: Learn The power of syncopations and tricky rhythms. Both individually and in the follow/lead.

Optional Class Descriptions:

Sausages Jazz Routine Originally choreographed by Kevin Saint Laurent & Peter Vawter, Sausages is a “MEN ONLY” jazz routine. It’s a fun routine which has influences from Spirit Moves…. and Vas and Trev are bringing it to Melbourne’s dancers. Apparently women all over the world have tried to be taught ‘sausages’ without any luck! Vas & Trevor (Perth)

Hip Hop & Breakin’ for Lindy 101: Bring back the 80’s and put a little Michael Jackson into your step. This fun class will work on the basics of Hip Hop and body isolations so you can incorporate them into your Lindy Hop – Word! Liam (Canberra)

Hip Hop Lindy Improvisation: The class will build on the basics from Class one, improvising Hip Hop/Break dancing into your Lindy Hop with your partner into a mini sequence/routine. Also playing with Swingouts to Hip Hop music and ‘funkin it up’ to swing music – Bring it! Liam (Canberra)

Enter the Matrix: We will show you how to make up your very own funky variations by using the rhythm jigsaw! We will also throw in a couple of our favourite moves – just for good measure! ;) Derek & Trish (Sydney)

Balboa/Swing Renovation Rescue: Renovators are great at standing there – looking at the picture, and creating dynamic new ways to bring things to life. Step, step, hold-step, step, step hold-step is the standard mantra and rhythm that we are used to. However this class is about inventive ways of changing this up and giving you the tools for new, fun and exciting combos for guys and girls. Don’t forget to bring your slick shoes.

Scrapbooking for Balboa/Swing Dancers: We are going to cut from here, paste into there and add some buttons and bows. We’ll be looking at what inspires us from those crazy oldtimers and dressing it up with a Mark and Vicki twist.
